Old door...no more...

I think I mentioned before that due in large part to this blog, my friend has hired me to decorate her house. Quite an honor, and I knew that I wanted to make several pieces to add to the decor.

One thing I knew I wanted to do was come up with a solution for right inside her front door. She doesn't have a hall closet so it leaves her without a place to hang peoples coats.

So, while perusing my local Re-Store, I saw this old cabinet door, and got an idea...

I took this beauty home for $2, and spent an additional $1 on 4 knobs for it. Then I removed the hardware, filled the holes, sanded it down, and gave it a nice couple coats of black. I used some sandpaper to distress some of the edges, and then I dug out my cricut...

Now, I heard you could use contact paper instead of vinyl, so that's what I bought (white contact paper). But it did NOT stick as well as the vinyl does, so after applying my lettering, I gave it a thick coat of Modge Podge to seal it. I used the Shadow font on the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge at a 3 1/2" size.

After that, I drilled the holes for my knobs, and finito...

I think it should work rather nicely for coats... :)
