Gettin' Crafty on Hump Day....

Hey everyone, its that time again :)

Here's what I've been working on:

Bo-RING!!!!!! But, for a whole quarter, I figured I'd find something to do with it. First it got a couple of coats of Heirloom White. Then, I used my Lyrical Letters & my Indie Arts cartridges to add to it. I LOVE it!!!

I actually got the AWESOME scrapbook paper from Walmart!! I'm SUCH a sucker for argyle!!!!!!!! Here's a close-up of the patterns:

So what've you been working on? Feel free to link up to a BLOG POST about something you did (craft, recipe, etc.). I mentioned a few weeks ago about someone posting a link to an online store. Please don't do that. I'll delete it. I don't want to. But I will.

Please leave a comment if you do link and PLEASE put my button somewhere on your blog :)

Things Remembered...eat your heart out...

Personalized gifts really are my favorite kinds of gifts to give. In my pre-cricut days, I spent a LOT of money in Things Remembered buying gifts. Picture frames mostly...its my "go to" gift. The prices there are fairly reasonable. Not quite THIS reasonable though:

$1.29?!?!?!?!??!!? I bought the last 3...and I'm glad there were only 3, or I likely would have bought a pallet. I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEE double paned frames right now so I seriously could not have been happier to find these at my favorite dollar store.

I decided to get fancy with this one and buy ACTUAL cricut vinyl. Unfortunately, the vinyl wouldn't stick to the glass (that's what I get for paying full price for something). So I turned to my lucky contact paper which I have lovingly named "The Po' Man's Vinyl" and sure enough, worked like a charm.
Last name blurred for privacy reasons. But for UNDER $2 I have a fabulous personalized baby gift! I'm telling you, a cricut is worth its weight in GOLD!!! And I already have ANOTHER baby gift to make, so I'll be doing this again. Lets just calculate...I would have spent OVER $50 this week at Things Remembered...instead I spent $4!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At this rate my cricut will have paid for itself in a matter or months!

*disclaimer: feel free to tell your husbands this, and that I have single handily, scientifically proven it! I will stand by this theory! :)

Gettin' Crafty on Hump Day....

Well, its that time again, lets see what crafts you've been workin' on...

Last week I needed to make a gift for a friend and decided on some camera strap covers. I did tutorial on camera strap covers HERE...

This time I decided to go with a more embellished look. Ribbon is such a great an inexpensive way to add some detail. The thing I love most about camera strap covers is that they are so inexpensive to make. You can buy a fat quarter for under $2 and that gives you enough to make multiple covers!! Can't beat a price like that!!!!!!!! Here's a photo of the 2 I did:

So what are you working on? Lets link :)

Germ Blaster...

I wanted to make a little gift for my son's preschool teacher, and I saw a ton of tutorials on personalized sanitizer. I thought that was a PERFECT idea, so I went with it. I bought a JUMBO sized bottle of sanitizer:

I peeled the label off, and then used a combination of furniture polish, fabric softener and sneaker cleaner to get the residue off (I seriously need to buy some goof off!). Once I got the goop off it, I used some left over vinyl from another project and added a fun little caption with my Lyrical Letters cartridge. Of course I needed to embellish with a little ribbon...and here she is:

I wanted to add some cute/fun graphics so I pulled out my Indie Art cartridge. Seeing as my son is OBSESSED with batman currently, I thought the bomb/pow captured the feel I was going for. Here's a close up:

So for a couple bucks I've got a personalized gift that is as functional as it is cute! What gifts have you made for back to school?

Dollar Store Stained Glass...

Remember these? They've been circulating the blogosphere for awhile, they are double paned picture frames from the dollar store. I bought a bushel of them, so I've been looking for any excuse to use them :)

In my new craft room (which is STILL not completely unpacked), I have 2 HUGE windows. I'm in love with my windows because my previous craft cave got um.....ZERO natural light. I knew right off the bat I was not putting curtains in my craft room.

Still, I wanted something pretty for the windows. I decided to try the modge podge/food coloring technique. I used pink and orange and literally poured it onto the glass...then I used some paper towel to stipple it. Then I used my Cricut and my new Lyrical Letters cartridge (I believe this is my new favorite!!!!!!!) to cut out a couple words and modge podged then onto the glass as well. I painted the frames white, added a little bow and here they are.....

And here they are IN the window!!!!!! Love the way the light comes through them!!!!!!! I have SOOOOOOOOOOO many ideas for these babies!!!!!!! (not sure why the one picture looks yellowish, its actually a really nice shade of orange...)

I LUVVVVVVVVVVVVV my Dollar Store stained glass....sooooooooooo much cheaper than curtains! :)

Me no likey gold...

I've never been a big fan of gold. Occasionally I don't mind a pop, but I MUCH prefer silver. Still, I can't pass up a deal so when I saw this at a garage sale, I knew I needed to pick it up.

Its HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! And check out the detailing, I just love it!

One more shot of that beautiful detailing:

Oh wait, whats that? A price tag, yep $1.50. Say WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT? So, she came home with me. I taped off her mirror and painted her white. Then I got busy with my glaze and made her "antique" looking. Ahhhhh, check out the detailing now...LOVEEEEEEE it!

But she was still missing something. Then it hit me....one of those cute wall clings I got from the $ store!!!!

And here she is in all her glory:

So just to recap, for $2.50 I got this piece of amazingness!!!!!! And a positive message to glance at as I'm rushing out the door. I'm in love! :)

Gettin' Crafty on Hump Day...

I realize this is early (submissions will open at 9pm), but I have a knock-off too good to wait on!!!!!!! I fell in LOVE with these in the Ballard Catalog:
I decided, I NEEEEEEEEEEEDED to have one of these, FAST! So, while scouring my local Goodwill, I found a round picture frame that would work PERFECTLY! I started by ripping the back off, then I put in a round piece of mirror (a candle plate from the $$ store) and then I glued the back on again. Check it out:

Note to self: when you make an AWESOME copy cat, curb your enthusiasm and take time to windex off your finger print smudges before you photograph and/or post pictures on your blog. This has been a public Service announcement.

I realize that my little mirror is no where near as large as the one from Ballard, but thats ok, I plan to scour all thrift stores till I find 2 more so I can make a little grouping like this one:

These cost a mere $139!!!!!!!! *Rolls eyes*

My little beauty cost under $5 :) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I luvvvvvvvvvv when I find a way to stick it to the man...

So what have you been crafting this week? Link it up! PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE put my button on your blog somewhere, and please leave a comment if you link. Also, please only post a CRAFT project that you've been working on (or a recipe, whatever)...its just, the last 2 weeks someone has been posting links to an online store where they are selling refinished furniture. Don't make me delete your links, I don't want to be "that guy." Thanks :) hugs and kisses...

Gettin' Crafty on Hump Day....

This week, I remembered Wednesday, AND I have a craft, so I'm 2 for 2!!!!!! My craft room is still not unpacked, but I'm losing my marbles so I decided to start spray painting things. It started with this brass beauty.

I ripped the ivy off her and gave her 2 coats of heirloom white. She was purdy, but she was missing something. It wasn't till I found this at Goodwill that I realized what she needed.

A stand! So, she got a couple coats of heirloom white, and then they were united for all eternity. I added a little nest and a nice birdy tealight holder from the Dollar store and voila...I love her.

So lets link!!!!!!!!!! Please comment if you link and PLEASE put my button on your blog somewhere!!! :)
