A drawer by any other name would be called a...shelf?

I own a TON of decor as I'm sure you can imagine (I literally have bins full in my basement). But we all have our favorites, and while I'm continuing to unpack, I think I'll spotlight some of mine.

Probably my MOST favorite decor item are my library card catalog drawers. About 4 years ago at a garage sale a lady was selling around 3 dozen of these for $2 a piece. Hind sight is 20/20 and I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wish I would have bought them ALL! But rather, I took my 4 home and they sat in a box in my basement while I figured out what to do with them.

I knew I wanted to hang them because I LOVED the geometric square pattern in them and you wouldn't see that if they were just sitting somewhere. Then it hit me...if I hung them sideways, I could use them as a shelf!

They've been my favorite ever since, and of course had to be one of the first things I hung in my bedroom :)

Look how banged up and WONDERFUL they are!!! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

So what is your favorite decor?

Fail Friday.....

This weeks failure is a lesson in indecision. See...I've been pretty indecisive in this remodel...I want chrome, no, brushed nickel, no, get the picture.

One thing I've known since I bought the house...I wanted to paint a mural. I decided to free hand it one day and tho I had lots left to do to it, this is the "basics" of it:

Nice right? I was digging it. Then...I made a decision to tear down that wall. I had waffled back and forth for 3 weeks about it and finally said lets do it. So my tree then turned into this:

And eventually this:

So...looks like my tree will be relocating to another wall. In the meantime, I learned a valuable lesson. What fails have you been working on this week?

Lets celebrate!

Is today my lucky day?!?!?!?

We are smack dab in moving mode, and after moving our dining room set to the new place my hubby mentioned that he thinks a round dining table would suit us MUCH better in our new space.

Thus began the search for a round dining table. I searched high, and I searched low, and then I decided to search ground level just in case and lo and behold...look what I found sitting on the curb screaming "I DARE YOU TO TRY TO SHOVE ME IN THE BACK OF YOUR VAN AT 5:30 AM." Well that my friends is exactly what I did, so HA, take THAT table! (excuse the haziness of the camera lense decided to play the "see if you can snap a shot before I fog up on you" game and apparently she won.)

The brass plates at the bottom WILL be painted, but other than that, she's perfect!!! She is solid wood and weighs around ummmmm 3,000 pounds!!!! At least that's what it felt like when I was attempting to shove her into my van. Of course, I hadn't had my coffee yet, and believe me, that makes a difference. A BIG difference.

I am sooooooooooooooooo excited...craigslist, goodwill, and garage sales are awesome, but to have what you need at the exact time you need it show up on a curb for free...PRICELESS (yes, I just used MasterCard's slogan circa 2005, sue me...) ;)

Anyone else find any awesome treasures this week??!?!?! PS-I need to make a bumper sticker that says "Caution-I brake for curbside treasures" :)

Laying carpet...

So, in this new place we decided that with one VERY rambunctious boy and HOPEFULLY more children at some point, we'd better get some nice carpet to withstand the fury which shall be released upon it.

But...I'm too cheap to pay big bucks for, I decided to go it alone. First things first...I waited until my local big box store discontinued some nice carpet...I was able to get it for .79 cents per square foot, and it came with a really nice pad already attached.

A lot of people are scared to lay carpet...especially when there is a seam involved, but fortunately for me, my sister worked in a carpet store for awhile so I knew she'd be able to guide me in the right direction. The hardest part of the whole process was figuring out how much I'd need. The carpet only comes in 12' rolls and BOTH my rooms were 13'. She started to explain about how the nap had to go in the same direction when you cut the seam pieces, etc, and when she could tell I was thoroughly confused, she decided to draw me a diagram. Once I saw the picture, it made total sense!!!!!! So, I am carpeting 2 rooms. 1 is 13X24, the other, is 13X16. And here is how it needs to be pieced:

Easy peasy right?!?!?! So, I bought my carpet tape and got going. It went a lot easier than I thought, and in the end I couldn't be happier. We went from this:

To this:

SOOOOOOOOOOOO worth the work! :)

Love is in the air...

I had a wedding to go to this weekend and I knew I'd need to make a gift. So, I went to the place I love most...the dollar store. After picking up a great shadowbox frame and a fantastic gift bag, I had the makings of a perfect present.

The gift bag was not for the wrapping tho...I had special plans for it. With the help of some scrap booking supplies (and my cricut of course), I was able to turn it all into this:

Looks like a million bucks, but only cost me $3...just the way I like it ;)

Friday FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week...the fail is not my own (tho I've had PLENTY this week!) But rather, some sweet lady who's garage sale I visited a few weeks back.

Ya isn't always in the eye of the beholder...sometimes, its in the eye of the buyer. Case in point:

I spied these"festive" birdhouses at a garage sale for $1 each!!!!!!!!!!!! They are just around 3 feet tall!!!!! FOR $1!!!!!!!!!! They begged for me to take them...they said..."Nikki...PLEASEEEEEEEEE take us home and rip this garbage from our loins so we can LIVEEEEEEEEEE, WE WANT TO LIVEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!" Ok, so they weren't quite as dramatic about it, but, hey, all for the sake of journalism.

Anyway, how could I deny their request? I mean, I certainly couldn't buy the wood to make a birdhouse for $1, so I decided to take them home. Much to my surprise they already had a fantastic distressed crackle paint job so literally all I had to do was remove the christmas vomit from them and here she is....

Doesn't she look happy? I hope her red counterpart will join her soon, but due to a mishap with the "de-christmas operation" the red one will need additional surgery...which I guess could be considered MY fail for the week :)

So lets get linking!!!!!!!!!!!

Gettin' Crafty on Hump Day....

We had over 30 links last week!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys ROCK! :)

This week, I'm sharing photos of my garage sale bag. I see tons of cute re-usable "grocery" bags, but I had something different in mind. Ya know when you go to a garage sale, and you hit the MOTHER load, and you start piling things into your hands, and eventually you have to ask if you can set the stuff at the front table so you have room to carry more stuff (this happens to me a LOT). I decided a cute bag to keep in my car that I can carry with me to these sales would be a GREAT idea!

I had this super cute fabric that reminded me of a Spirograph (am I the only one that played with those religiously as a child? I LOVED my Spirograph! Don't remember the Spirograph?)

Anyway, I used my Spirograph fabric to make a LARGE over the shoulder bag. Then I chose 2 different coordinating for the gusset, and one for the handles. Sewed it all up and added some embellishments, and there you have it:

I'm gonna be stylin' AND profilin' at alllllllll the garage sales. Why...some might say I'll be the envy of the whole garage sale scene...its ok, I can handle the attention... :)

Ok, lets get to linkin'! Please comment if you link, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put my button on your blog somewhere if you link up :)
Also, share some comment love with some of the other links!!!!! :)

The 1/2 way point......

Well, I'm 1/2 way into my 1 month re-model, and I feel....EXHAUSTED. This is crazy! Seriously! What was I thinking?!?!?!? UGH.

Anyway...I decided to share a photographic montage with you, of the before's and the during's...

So away we go....

ATTENTION CRAFTERS: Buy an HVLP sprayer, just DO IT! Seriously! I am still not sure how I feel about the black cabinets. I mean, I love them, well mostly because they were my idea, but I would be lying if I didn't confess that black is a NIGHTMARE! UGH. But, I will say, the HVLP cost around $100 and it saved us a TON of time and effort! And we got a professional finish! ;)
Regardless...the black is a DEFINITE improvement don't ya think? lol

I can NOT believe how much bigger this space feels and looks, I can't wait to get the new carpet down! Note to all my readers: I am having a ceiling light installed in this room and taking down those horrific circa 1971 wall sconces. Yuck and YUCK.

Wow, is all I can say...this bathroom is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO overwhelming me right now. I love my new tub tho. Maybe I can just be happy with that. I mean, who really needs a toilet or sink anyway?

Master Bedroom:

Can I just say, I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE my floor! To think that such a gorgeous oak floor would be hiding under that carpet just gives me the shivers! And I love the color of the walls too. For 2 reasons...1) I love aqua. 2) I got 3 gallons of this color at the Restore for $1 a piece!!!!!!!!

Well, this was a fun project to start, but I am SO ready to be done!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH.

Friday FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, where are my fellow failures?!?!?! Let us raise our glasses in celebration of our inadequacies, and party together.

My fail for the week comes from my failure to use necessary SAFETY equipment while doing my demo. So, because of my lack of gloves, my hands are covered in blisters. My lack of goggles has left me with VERY irritated eyes. And my lack of wearing a mask has my allergies going bananas! Next time I remodel, I promise to be good!

So what are your failures this week?

The day time stood still...

I seem to be on a clock kick lately, so I was way excited to find 2 wooden clocks at my FAV dollar store! Problem is...they looked like this:

HOLY UGLINESS! It needed paint, PRONTO! So, I gave it a nice coat of Valspar Antique Blue. And the hands got a nice coat of Heirloom White. But, it was still too plain...I needed embellishments! Then it hit me! Check out these cute little tea light holders I found (yes, at the same dollar store).

So, I took a tin snips to their little legs and cut them off the base. But...I wasn't digging the, they got a good coat of London Grey. Then I liquid nailed them to the clock. I used some of the silver contact paper that I cut with my cricut to mark the 12, 3, 6, and 9, and look at my $3 clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
