A drawer by any other name would be called a...shelf?

I own a TON of decor as I'm sure you can imagine (I literally have bins full in my basement). But we all have our favorites, and while I'm continuing to unpack, I think I'll spotlight some of mine.

Probably my MOST favorite decor item are my library card catalog drawers. About 4 years ago at a garage sale a lady was selling around 3 dozen of these for $2 a piece. Hind sight is 20/20 and I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wish I would have bought them ALL! But rather, I took my 4 home and they sat in a box in my basement while I figured out what to do with them.

I knew I wanted to hang them because I LOVED the geometric square pattern in them and you wouldn't see that if they were just sitting somewhere. Then it hit me...if I hung them sideways, I could use them as a shelf!

They've been my favorite ever since, and of course had to be one of the first things I hung in my bedroom :)

Look how banged up and WONDERFUL they are!!! LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

So what is your favorite decor?

Fail Friday.....

This weeks failure is a lesson in indecision. See...I've been pretty indecisive in this remodel...I want chrome, no, brushed nickel, no, orb...you get the picture.

One thing I've known since I bought the house...I wanted to paint a mural. I decided to free hand it one day and tho I had lots left to do to it, this is the "basics" of it:

Nice right? I was digging it. Then...I made a decision to tear down that wall. I had waffled back and forth for 3 weeks about it and finally said lets do it. So my tree then turned into this:

And eventually this:

So...looks like my tree will be relocating to another wall. In the meantime, I learned a valuable lesson. What fails have you been working on this week?

Lets celebrate!

Is today my lucky day?!?!?!?

We are smack dab in moving mode, and after moving our dining room set to the new place my hubby mentioned that he thinks a round dining table would suit us MUCH better in our new space.

Thus began the search for a round dining table. I searched high, and I searched low, and then I decided to search ground level just in case and lo and behold...look what I found sitting on the curb screaming "I DARE YOU TO TRY TO SHOVE ME IN THE BACK OF YOUR VAN AT 5:30 AM." Well that my friends is exactly what I did, so HA, take THAT table! (excuse the haziness of the photo...my camera lense decided to play the "see if you can snap a shot before I fog up on you" game and apparently she won.)

The brass plates at the bottom WILL be painted, but other than that, she's perfect!!! She is solid wood and weighs around ummmmm 3,000 pounds!!!! At least that's what it felt like when I was attempting to shove her into my van. Of course, I hadn't had my coffee yet, and believe me, that makes a difference. A BIG difference.

I am sooooooooooooooooo excited...craigslist, goodwill, and garage sales are awesome, but to have what you need at the exact time you need it show up on a curb for free...PRICELESS (yes, I just used MasterCard's slogan circa 2005, sue me...) ;)

Anyone else find any awesome treasures this week??!?!?! PS-I need to make a bumper sticker that says "Caution-I brake for curbside treasures" :)

Laying carpet...

So, in this new place we decided that with one VERY rambunctious boy and HOPEFULLY more children at some point, we'd better get some nice carpet to withstand the fury which shall be released upon it.

But...I'm too cheap to pay big bucks for flooring...so, I decided to go it alone. First things first...I waited until my local big box store discontinued some nice carpet...I was able to get it for .79 cents per square foot, and it came with a really nice pad already attached.

A lot of people are scared to lay carpet...especially when there is a seam involved, but fortunately for me, my sister worked in a carpet store for awhile so I knew she'd be able to guide me in the right direction. The hardest part of the whole process was figuring out how much I'd need. The carpet only comes in 12' rolls and BOTH my rooms were 13'. She started to explain about how the nap had to go in the same direction when you cut the seam pieces, etc, and when she could tell I was thoroughly confused, she decided to draw me a diagram. Once I saw the picture, it made total sense!!!!!! So, I am carpeting 2 rooms. 1 is 13X24, the other, is 13X16. And here is how it needs to be pieced:

Easy peasy right?!?!?! So, I bought my carpet tape and got going. It went a lot easier than I thought, and in the end I couldn't be happier. We went from this:

To this:

SOOOOOOOOOOOO worth the work! :)
