Fail Friday...

My fail for this week is that I LITERALLY forgot hump day, I mean like seriously forgot that Wednesday even happened. Wednesday night I'm driving around in my car and I think "when is Wednesday? I need to get my link party posted." UHHHHHHHH TOO LATE!!!!!!!! What a ditz!!!!!!!!

Love is in the air...

I had a wedding to go to this weekend and I knew I'd need to make a gift. So, I went to the place I love most...the dollar store. After picking up a great shadowbox frame and a fantastic gift bag, I had the makings of a perfect present.


The gift bag was not for the wrapping tho...I had special plans for it. With the help of some scrap booking supplies (and my cricut of course), I was able to turn it all into this:

Looks like a million bucks, but only cost me $3...just the way I like it ;)

Friday FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This week...the fail is not my own (tho I've had PLENTY this week!) But rather, some sweet lady who's garage sale I visited a few weeks back.

Ya know...beauty isn't always in the eye of the beholder...sometimes, its in the eye of the buyer. Case in point:



I spied these rather...er...umm..."festive" birdhouses at a garage sale for $1 each!!!!!!!!!!!! They are just around 3 feet tall!!!!! FOR $1!!!!!!!!!! They begged for me to take them...they said..."Nikki...PLEASEEEEEEEEE take us home and rip this garbage from our loins so we can LIVEEEEEEEEEE, WE WANT TO LIVEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!" Ok, so they weren't quite as dramatic about it, but, hey, all for the sake of journalism.

Anyway, how could I deny their request? I mean, I certainly couldn't buy the wood to make a birdhouse for $1, so I decided to take them home. Much to my surprise they already had a fantastic distressed crackle paint job so literally all I had to do was remove the christmas vomit from them and here she is....



Doesn't she look happy? I hope her red counterpart will join her soon, but due to a mishap with the "de-christmas operation" the red one will need additional surgery...which I guess could be considered MY fail for the week :)

Gettin' Crafty on Hump Day....

This week, I'm sharing photos of my garage sale bag. I see tons of cute re-usable "grocery" bags, but I had something different in mind. Ya know when you go to a garage sale, and you hit the MOTHER load, and you start piling things into your hands, and eventually you have to ask if you can set the stuff at the front table so you have room to carry more stuff (this happens to me a LOT). I decided a cute bag to keep in my car that I can carry with me to these sales would be a GREAT idea!

I had this super cute fabric that reminded me of a Spirograph (am I the only one that played with those religiously as a child? I LOVED my Spirograph! Don't remember the Spirograph?)

Anyway, I used my Spirograph fabric to make a LARGE over the shoulder bag. Then I chose 2 different coordinating fabrics...one for the gusset, and one for the handles. Sewed it all up and added some embellishments, and there you have it:

I'm gonna be stylin' AND profilin' at alllllllll the garage sales. Why...some might say I'll be the envy of the whole garage sale scene...its ok, I can handle the attention... :)

The 1/2 way point......

Well, I'm 1/2 way into my 1 month re-model, and I feel....EXHAUSTED. This is crazy! Seriously! What was I thinking?!?!?!? UGH.

Anyway...I decided to share a photographic montage with you, of the before's and the during's...

So away we go....

Kitchen:

ATTENTION CRAFTERS: Buy an HVLP sprayer, just DO IT! Seriously! I am still not sure how I feel about the black cabinets. I mean, I love them, well mostly because they were my idea, but I would be lying if I didn't confess that black is a NIGHTMARE! UGH. But, I will say, the HVLP cost around $100 and it saved us a TON of time and effort! And we got a professional finish! ;)

Regardless...the black is a DEFINITE improvement don't ya think? lol

Basement:

I can NOT believe how much bigger this space feels and looks, I can't wait to get the new carpet down! Note to all my readers: I am having a ceiling light installed in this room and taking down those horrific circa 1971 wall sconces. Yuck and YUCK.

Bathroom:

Wow, is all I can say...this bathroom is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO overwhelming me right now. I love my new tub tho. Maybe I can just be happy with that. I mean, who really needs a toilet or sink anyway?

Master Bedroom:

Can I just say, I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE my floor! To think that such a gorgeous oak floor would be hiding under that carpet just gives me the shivers! And I love the color of the walls too. For 2 reasons...1) I love aqua. 2) I got 3 gallons of this color at the Restore for $1 a piece!!!!!!!!

Well, this was a fun project to start, but I am SO ready to be done!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH.

Friday FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, where are my fellow failures?!?!?! Let us raise our glasses in celebration of our inadequacies, and party together.

My fail for the week comes from my failure to use necessary SAFETY equipment while doing my demo. So, because of my lack of gloves, my hands are covered in blisters. My lack of goggles has left me with VERY irritated eyes. And my lack of wearing a mask has my allergies going bananas! Next time I remodel, I promise to be good!

So what are your failures this week?

The day time stood still...

I seem to be on a clock kick lately, so I was way excited to find 2 wooden clocks at my FAV dollar store! Problem is...they looked like this:

HOLY UGLINESS! It needed paint, PRONTO! So, I gave it a nice coat of Valspar Antique Blue. And the hands got a nice coat of Heirloom White. But, it was still too plain...I needed embellishments! Then it hit me! Check out these cute little tea light holders I found (yes, at the same dollar store).

So, I took a tin snips to their little legs and cut them off the base. But...I wasn't digging the color...so, they got a good coat of London Grey. Then I liquid nailed them to the clock. I used some of the silver contact paper that I cut with my cricut to mark the 12, 3, 6, and 9, and look at my $3 clock!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
